I never owned a commdore. but I do have an X16 and I imagined it would be simlar to C64? I am loving it so far!

My first computer was a Commodore 64. From there it was on to the Amiga 500 before eventually moving to the PC world. I got in to retro computing a little probably about ten years ago and bought a few Amigas. In the last several years I've picked up a bunch of retro PCs including a Vic-20 and a PET. I'd like to get a Commodore 128 at somepoint as I never really used one beyond the C64 mode.

Mine was and still is the C128 although I learned to code on a PET and has access to VIC-20 before I got my 128... Obviously games were played primarly on C64. I have just recently restored a SX64 and I really like that too, haha

3: C64

For me, the C64 had the most use in our house. From 10 years old and up into high school, it was a staple for games, homework and tinkering. Friends
would pile around it to play summer and winter games.

When BBS's became a thing, we ran a Color 64 BBS called Wastelands. My parents finally became tired of us hogging up the single phone line to the house and added one more.

The nerd in me would spend hours with graph paper making sprites that would just move around the screen. Never making anything real on the C64, those embryonic moments launched me into computer science. Fast forward 30+ years and I've decided to revisit the 64 through emulation. Thanks to archive.org, I found Jim Butterfield's works and have started learning assembly on the c64.

The PET 2001. Yep, the one with the "calculator" keyboard. Up to that point, I'd only seen the TRS-80 at a RS store. When I discovered that an actual computer store existed not too far from me (if you call having to take two buses and almost two hours, "not too far") I saw the PET for the first time. I immediately wanted one. It was unlike anything else in the store; this thing belonged in a sci-fi movie, it was so cool. The keyboard was my favorite part, because it added to the sci-fi look. Yeah, I was a touch-typist, but I didn't care. I wanted one. Unfortunetly, I just couldn't afford it, so I just messed with theirs everytime I was there, which was pretty much every Saturday.

To this day, I still want one. If I can find one that's in primo condition, I'd definitely pay some coin to get it; it's my Holy Grail.

I saw those. I DL'ed Machine language for the Commodore 64 (and other Commodore computers). He really knows how to make things understandable to newbies. I met him years ago when I was in a local computer club. Nice guy, if not a bit opinionated. I never owned the print edition, but I did have 6502 Assembly Language Programming by Lance Leventhal, which was also pretty good.

Now I have to pull out the book I learned from... I can't remember if it was Jim's or another. All I recall is I kept rereading it and really wasn't getting it. Then ended up figuring it out in a dream, woke up at 3am and wrote my first Asembly code. lol
